The Consortium of copartnerships Phoenix Systems, Netia, Atende and Atende Industries appoints an international association Edge-loT Alliance in Brussels. Its aim is to define an open standard interface operation system for Edge-loT, to facilitate creating and launching applications directly on edge devices. The association will consociate primarily European industry companies interested in standardization of the edge devices Edge-loT environment, which is crucial for the further development of loT market (Industrial Internet of Things).
According to the IDC FutureScape: Worldwide IT Industry 2020 Predictions report, until 2023 over 50% of new technical infrastructure of businesses will be introduced on a network’s edge, instead of corporate data centers, compared to 10% now. Until 2024 the amount of applications on the edge will grow by 800%.
“Within the Edge-loT Alliance agreement we come forward towards changes of the market through redefining the open standard interface operation system for edge devices with limited resources. The key is for the applications to be developed for edge devices in a similar way, which we are familiar with from the world of personal computers and phones and so they could be easily transferred between various devices. To paint a picture, the point is for a programme written for an edge device to be able to work on water, gas and energy meters, in a washing machine, drone and a new autonomous car”- says Paweł Pisarczyk, originator and one of the founders of Edge-loT Alliance, and simultaneously CEO of copartnerships Atende Industries and Phoenix Systems from the Atende Group.
“The Netia Group has a large experience in commercialisation and effective implementation of Cloud and Security solutions. In the search for new opportunities for development in the B2B segment we eagerly open up to cooperation with creators of innovative solutions. A standardized operating system for Edge-loT in our opinion has a large potential and an opportunity to come into existence on a global market loT. I am sure that our combined abilities in the range of designing and building cloud solutions will allow us to efficiently develop a central collection platform which analyzes data from the Edge-loT devices, fulfilling our and our partner’s full innovative potential.
The solution with which we begin our joint adventure, being Smart Grid and support of environmentally friendly energetics, is also one of the market priorities, especially important because of the aspect of effective dropping of emission levels. It is crucial to mention that since a while all of Netia’s Data Center objects, including our cloud services from the NetiaNext line, are powered 100% by green energy”- said Anrzed Abramczuk, Board Chairman, Director General of Netia S.A.
Edge-loT, the so-called edge of the Internet of Things is a concept based on an industrial cloud, which assumes that sensors and devices store, analyze and transmit data to the cloud in real time. Such architecture solves the problems regarding delays in data transmission, as data is processed closer to its place of origin, and additionally ensures greater security and a more fluent service of the end user. The developing networks of a higher capacity, such as 5G, are using Edge-loT standards to process great amounts of data at once to an increasing extent. This opens up new fields of application of the previous devices, which thanks to proper and standardized operating systems will be able to work as a computer and become a platform for user applications, similarly to e.g. smartphones. Newly appointed association aims to standardize the operating system for Edge-loT as to, cognately to the mobile devices environment, enable the creation and fluent migration of user applications between devices and facilitate their integration with the cloud, securing the Cloud-Edge-loT-Continuum.
“Together with Netia we invite to our association representatives of the 4.0 Industry, who similarly like us, believe that an open and standardized operating system on edge devices, even based on smaller microcontrollers, is key to the industrial cloud’s and industrial Internet of Things development.
