Atende Industries in consortium pursuing modern Edge-loT platform

The project „Cognitive Serverless Framework for the Cloud Edge Continuum” has begun, and is pursued within Horizon Europe- EU’s biggest programme in terms of scientific research and innovation. The aim of the cutting-edge project is developing tools enabling the usage of computing power of applications located on the Edge-loT. The consortium consists of European companies offering open source technologies, research organizations and suppliers of edge applications. The co partnerships Atende Industries and Phoenix Systems from Atende Group are responsible for the pillar related to new generation energetics.

Consortium’s leader is Open Nebula Systems (Spain), responsible for the development of cloud-based solutions managing edge devices. The participants of the consortium are Umeå University (Sweden), IKERLAN (Spain), CETIC (Belgium), RISE Research Institutes of Sweden (Sweden), SUSE (Germany), Acisa (Spain), Nature4.0 (Italy), along with Phoenix Systems and Atende Industries (Poland). The entire sum of the project is ca. 6 mln euro, where Atende Industries is to receive ca. 160 thousand euros.

The dynamically developing global ecosystem of the Internet of Things is marked by the growing number of various devices and applications connected to the Internet. That means a growing amount of challenges for creators of applications functioning with edge devices related to i.a. limited resources, platforms’ heterogeneity, dynamic infrastructure and lack of the ability of “manual” control. Edge computing emerging against those challenges is a new paradigm aiming for processing computer performance close to data, mobile devices, edge sensors and final users. The new platform developed within the project, based on edge computing, is to play a key role of a distributor of application’s and Edge-IoT’s touchpoint in order to enable quicker, safer and more efficient information exchange for edge sensors loT. Through dissipating calculations related to applications’ activity onto devices in the Edge-loT, the limitation of their central control will be enabled. The artificial intelligence and automation mechanisms incorporated in the platform will support the portability of functionality between devices, current adjustments of available computational resources to their strains and the reaction in real time towards possible incidents and dangers.

The tools developed throughout the project will be pursuing the functions above in practical uses within areas such as: smart cities, fire protection, cybersecurity and intelligent energy technology.

“Within the project a technology is created, that meets practical demands of edge applications, and through the shift of computing power onto Edge-IoT allows not only for speeding along the calculations, but also enables for pursuing processes which control must take place in real time e. g. heat pump regulation, chagrin energy storage or steering PV inverters. Our role will be sharing and developing the platform besmart.energy for application distribution onto energy meters of new generation Aparator NILEE equipped in the Phoenix-RTOS system, on which they are booted and applications will be developed. This is a chance for developing unconventional and progressive solutions for energetics on an European scale”- says Dominik Bocheński, Director of the Smart Grid Solutions Department in Atende Industries.
